Floor Slip Rating Information
The Slip Rating of a tile refers to how much grip the tile surface has. Most tiles come with a slip rating to help determine their suitability for different projects. For instance, tiles with high slip resistance are ideal for wet or outdoor areas where slipping is more likely. Slip resistance is measured in two main ways—some tiles are rated using the PTV (Pendulum Test Value) system, while others use an R rating, some tiles have both ratings.
R Values – R ratings are for Shod feet

R9 – Minor Slip Resistance. These tiles should only be used in dry indoor areas and should be excluded from wet environments. If intending to use R9 tiles in bathrooms, it is crucial that you use a bathmat to help with stability when getting in and out of the bath or shower.
R10 – Minor to Moderate Slip Resistance. These tiles may be considered for domestic indoor areas prone to splashes & spills, such as kitchens, cloakrooms, utility rooms and bathrooms. If water is excessive the use of a bathmat is recommended to help with stability when getting in and out of the bath or shower. See below note regarding Wet Rooms.
R10B – Moderate Slip Resistance. These tiles are suitable for installations including wet room floors, bathrooms, kitchens, porches, hallways, cloakrooms, utility rooms, pool surrounds & patios where there is a moderate risk of slipping in wet conditions.
R11– Moderate Slip Resistance. These tiles are suitable for installations including wet rooms floors, bathrooms, kitchens, porches, hallways, cloakrooms, utility rooms, pool surrounds & patios.
R12 – Moderate Slip Resistance. Minimum required for industrial use or where tiles are needed for a sloped surface.
R13 – High Slip Resistance. Suitable for use in areas such as public gym showers and the borders of swimming pools.
NPD – No Performance Declared
Wet Rooms
R9 & R10 tiles that also have a PTV+36 Wet rating are suitable for wet rooms.
R10B tiles and above are suitable for use in wet rooms.
PTV +36 Wet tiles are suitable for use in wet rooms.

Classification A: Dry barefoot areas, dry aisles, walkways & changing areas (where the floor is never or rarely wet)
Classification B: Shower rooms, pool surrounds, wet changing areas (plus all areas covered by class A)
Classification C: Areas constantly under water e.g. steps into pools, foot baths, inclined pool surrounds, Jacuzzis (plus all areas covered by Class A & B)
